Awareness Through Adornment
Project Overview
“Awareness Through Adornment '' focuses on uplifting the voices of marginalized groups in the Cd. Juarez/El Paso Borderland. Anyone can participate but artist is especially seeking out those who identify as LGTBQ+community, Muslims, Black folks, Asian, Asian-American Pacific Islander, Indigenous, and People with disabilities (both visible and/or non-visible). This collaborative art project will consist of surveys, interviews, and documentation of body adornment worn by the community. The artist will create original artwork (similar to the style in above photo) inspired and reflecting on these conversations.
Opening exhibition will be held Thursday August 11th, 2022 at the Roderick Artspace Gallery, 601 N. Oregon St., located in downtown El Paso, TX. Free and open to anyone.
This project is funded partially by the City of El Paso Museums & Cultural Affairs Department.
